Our curiosity for space was always there, for many decades. Hence the curiosity for the unknown is making us always searching. Therefore this continuing search has led us in many great achievements, like flying.

Yet what we are still long from discovering is Space. From the very recent breakthrough of taking an image of a black hole, it is understandable that we have a lot to know.

And by saying ‘we’, I mean all the Astronomy scientists, known also as Astrophysicists. So they seem to have a lot on their plate. Because they have only observations and science to discover the Universe. Hence they can not ‘test’ their hypothesis in the laboratory, for example.

Astronomy: the science of curiosity for space

Astronomy is indeed a fascinating science studying celestial objects (such as stars, planets, comets, and galaxies). Because of our curious mind in discovering Space, Astronomy helps us not only to discover what lies beyond Earth but also helps us to evolve our technology.

Because of the fact that Astronomy is about observing Space, it has driven us to new emerging technologies, such as our camera phone and freeze-dried food.

Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people. - Carl Sagan

Listen to this episode on Her Impact Podcast

To find out more about Astronomy, this episode I am interviewing Astrophysicist Natalie Christopher. So she explains the science and the impact it has on our life.

She talks about her work on studying galaxies further than our own: the Milky Way and explains simply how everything around our planet work.

Finally, we talk about the fact that a lot of technologies we use, we developed because of Astronomy. More on this Her Impact episode.

People do not see the technology that is driven by Astronomy, like for example the reason you can take a selfie on your phone is because of the photos we were taking to map the sky.

Do you know anything about Astronomy? Do you believe there is life in other galaxies? You can tell us your view below.
