Scientists look like weirdos with messy hair and crazy eyes, or maybe we still think so. Most people still believe in one of the oldest stereotypes of all time.
Hence scientists are old men that look like Einstein with glasses and a lab robe.
But we may never saw such a person, only maybe Einstein himself.
Yet we still believe so much this stereotype that anyone that has not even one characteristic, we do not hear what she or he is actually saying.
When kids look up to great scientists the way they do to great musicians and actors, civilization will jump to the next level.
Brian Greene
If you are watching a discussion among a panel of scientists usually they are old men. Because of this stereotype media and the general public ask them to talk about science.
But that is a myth, a gender bias, and an old taboo. Therefore scientists are just normal people that choose to have a career in science.
It is as simple as that.
In this episode we are talking all about the stereotype of how a scientist looks and why it is so harmful to most scientists.
Finally, you should go past of appearance and gender, and focus our attention on what a scientist says.
It’s not that children are little scientists — it’s that scientists are big children. Scientists actually are the few people who as adults get to have this protected time when they can just explore, play, figure out what the world is like.
Alison Gopnik
