GENDER GAP IN SCIENCE WITH DR. SOPHIA PAPASTAVROU FAUSTMANN

The gender gap is still great in science. Unfortunately, overall, women are the minority in research.

Thankfully, in some countries, women are thriving. Yet there are not enough data to fully support this.

For instance, data on the number of scientists are collected for full-time and part-time researchers, without distinction. Therefore this fails to show that there no room for women at the top.

Young girls are engaged in STEM until they reach academia. (There) they do not support our work.

Dr. Sophia Papastavrou Faustmann

Gender gap is not about women. It is about the world to reach equilibrium between the two sexes.

So we invited Dr. Sophia Papastavrou Faustmann, a gender equality expert, to learn more about this hot topic.

Sophia is a gender technical specialist at World Vision Canada and lives in Cyprus.

She recently published her dissertation entitled: Women’s Organizations for Peace: Moving Beyond the Rhetoric of the Cyprus Problem which was the result of over 7 years of field research in a frozen conflict zone.

Those days where women were suffocated are over. So young woman and men can live in a gender equal world.

Dr. Sophia Papastavrou Faustmann

On this episode, Sophia gives her view on these three burning questions:

  1. What is her input regarding women in science and gender equality
  2. How gender equality is different across the nations (the difference in Cyprus and Canada)
  3. What can we do to close the gap
