Tour guides can actually elevate our experience when we travel. Because they give us insights and stories on the places we visit in our travels.
I personally had much more interesting visits to a place when I joined a tour. Hence I felt more interested in learning more about it when I heard what the tour guide was saying.
Therefore we are learning about stories that you can not find in any guidebook. These are the local legends that are known from mouth to mouth.
I went into geology because I like being outdoors, and because everybody in geology seemed, well, they all seemed like free spirits or renegades or something. You know, climbing mountains and hiking deserts and stuff.

Yet there are not tour guides for every interest. So most of them are more into history and archaeology because these are the most common courses they are taught in colleges.
Geologists are becoming more and more often tour guides in geotourism. Hence they are providing an alternative service in touring.
Already many places in the world, like Iceland, the USA or the UK, are quite famous for their geological tours.
But more and more countries are becoming geotourism destinations, such as Greece.
In more detail, geological tours are organized by geologists and they are offering to tour in known geological landscapes. So they are offering guided tours in volcanoes, glaciers fossil sites, geoparks, and others.
Yet geologists can take you on a tour in place but also in time. You can travel back in history to millions of years ago.
But this type of tourism is only starting as more and more geologists are turning to geotourism.
In this episode, I am explaining why you should try a tour with a geologist. So I am uncovering this new service that excites many travelers around the world.
It was during my enchanted days of travel that the idea came to me, which, through the years, has come into my thoughts again and again and always happily-the idea that geology is the music of the earth.

With love…for science,
Wow! This sounds really cool, however, I only have a BA in Geology and not sure if I would qualify.
Hello Charles, why not? If you are interested you can go to a tour guide school so you can actually do it. See it from this angle you will be more qualified from any other tour guide in the school.
