A journey through healing waters and living mountain heritage

🏘️ Experience Overview

This geoheritage walk explores one of the most atmospheric corners of Kalopanayiotis, following a circular route that connects the river corridor, historic water structures, sulfur springs, and the village itself. We start at the main parking area and gently descend towards the Setrachos River, entering a shaded valley where plane trees, ivy and stone terraces create a cool, enclosed landscape.

Walking upstream along the river trail, the route leads us to the Kykkos Watermill, a reminder of the time when the river’s steady flow powered everyday life, and then continues towards two sulfur springs: Stomachikos and Psamiakos. Here, the geology of the Troodos Ophiolite becomes visible in the mineral-rich waters emerging from fractures in the rock.

After exploring the springs and their stories, we continue to the Lovers’ Bridge, a picturesque crossing that marks the transition from river landscape back towards the village. From there, we ascend through narrow lanes and traditional houses, returning to the parking area and closing the loop. 

This experience is designed as a slow, interpretive walk, ideal for travellers who enjoy gentle movement, place-based storytelling, and understanding how geology and culture are intertwined in mountain villages.
